January 2015 Week #1

Hey kiddos,
I am so behind here.  I really hope to go back some and catch up a little on last YEAR, but I figure I better just get going on this new year so I don't forget it too.
We started this year off with a bang.  Dad and Cooper spent a lot of time working on model rockets.  Cooper got a kit that made a couple of different rockets and they had a lot of fun putting them together.  Rocket #1 was our first attempt and it had a great launch.  Unfortunately it ended up hanging from some telephone wires. We were all really disappointed and weren't sure what to do.  Dad tried throwing his shoe at it probably at least 100 times.  He got a good hit once and it started to come down only to get stuck in the next wire down.  We were all sad but ended up having to leave it hanging on the wire.

This is rocket #2 and the launch was successful though Cooper does want to get some more powerful engines that will shoot it up a little farther next time.

 Here is the cheering section!
Ryder got to hang out with Dad and watch the UofO Ducks play a big game.  He even got to hang out with a real cougar! (Real but not Alive!)

It wouldn't be a new year in our family without some new goals.  We haven't done our Family Home Evening to set all of our goals but we did a few that we wanted to start right away.  Jenna is trying to read all of the standard works before she turns 12 and enters Young Womens.  She has read The Book of Mormon twice, the New Testament, is about half way through the Doctrine and Covenants.  She is going to finish that, along with the Pearl of Great Price and also read the whole Old Testament in the next 13 months.  Go Jenna!  Cooper is ready to tackle reading regularly.  He has a goal to read everyday this year.  You can do it Cooper!

This is not one of our New Year's Goals but Weston asked so we let him sit on the big boy potty.

We wanted to do a couple of fun things during our last few days of winter break.  So on Friday we took the kids Rollerskating.  Jenna got new roller blades for Christmas and loved trying them out.  Everyone had a really good time.

After skating Gma B took us out for a little treat at the Dairy Queen.  Weston ate his first full ice cream cone, and Trey was of course quite the "Joker."

Saturday morning was our turn to clean the church.  We love doing this and it comes around about every 4 months now.  Today there was lots to do because we have Elder Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles coming next week for Stake Conference.  All of you kids are good to help.  Even Weston got in on some of the action!  He loves vacuums so this was a dream come true for him.
After a couple of fun filled days we settled in for Family Movie Night.  We ate"Viking Ships at Sunrise" and watched "Planes, Fire and Rescue."  It is always fun to do this together.
After the movie you kids had a special treat of sleeping in the new Teepee that Ryder and Trey got from Dad and Mom for Christmas.  We weren't sure if you could all fit in it but you did and you loved being together!
On New Year Day we had Grilled Tuna and Cheese sandwiches.  It had been a crazy day and that is all I could pull together.  When I asked the family what this meant for our new year Jenna replied, "It is was going to be simple, yet delicious."  So I hope that we all have a Simple and Delicious year!
